Just got a chance to play this one this morning; instantly placed it onto my list of games-to-buy (or wish-list).
Main mechanics: tile selection & discovery, placement (without conflict).
Normally I'm not a huge fan of games with a required turn-based rolling set, but in this case it works very well, even allowing the randomness of the roll to force careful strategic selection.
A set of tiles are placed out onto the common board, sectioned off by die-roll area (1 through 6). Starting player (which changes based upon circumstances) rolls their own pair of d6, plus a single die that places a good from a phase track (5 goods per main phase, 5 phases). The player only gets to choose from areas based on each die rolled. Either take a tile and place into a personal holding area, move from the personal holding area onto a personal play-field, collect die-roll-modifiers, or a few other choices. Next player in the round only rolls their own dice, same choices.
Different tiles provide different advantages or victory points, some acting as adders or multipliers, none cause havoc on other players (very non-confrontational in that sense). Person with most victory points wins.
Average (not great) artwork, average (neither good nor bad) game pieces. Durability only listed medium for non-gamers who might even try this out as their first Euro but have children - it's as durable as any other standard boardgame. Nothing specifically educational other than strategic development, but this is definitely a good medium-level game. Not an incredible number of fiddly-bits (as with, say, Puerto Rico), but still a bit of setup is required. First time to play took just under 2 hours, any future play will ostensibly be 30 - 60 minutes with familiar players.
Overall, something I look forward to owning and playing many times to come!
