This puzzle is not at all hard. I would say the average time for an adult to solve it would be 10-20 minutes. Anyway, this toy is very well done, durable and creative. Everyone likes it! One of the best if you are looking someting between levels 1-3.

Hanayama USHY19 Chain Cast Metal Brain Teaser Puzzle Review

I'm curious if it was just mine, or if they are all this way. I find the one I have to be quite difficult to manipulate through its intended movements. Even now having solved it dozens of times with no questions remaining on how to solve it, I still find it can be difficult to solve because the pieces get stuck and won't move as they need to. I find I have to shake it constantly to get things to find their only possible path past one another, yet its shape makes it somewhat difficuilt to hang onto as i shake it. Before I knew the solution, this limitation was a major obstacle to me solving the puzzle and a source of considerable frustration. I found myself hesitating to try a move because of the anxiety of how much trouble it would be to get it back to where it was.
I say all that not to warn you away from this excellent puzzle but to give you confidence to push on and that you are likely on the right path.
The frustration factor aside, this remains one of my favorite puzzles. It's movements are so interesting and satisfying that I find myself going back to it time and again just to get the satisfaction of manipulating and solving it. It is a great puzzle.
The internet is great for many things, but please don't cheat yourself when it comes to solving these puzzles. Push through it and gain the reward that comes with having solved a challenge on your own

I bought this as a gift for a friend who collects Hanayama puzzles. It did not take as long for him to complete it as I would have hoped, although after hours of playing with it I could still not figure it out. It is a great quality toy, and although it can be a little frustrating, I believe it would be a good gift for almost anyone.

The antlers are the key to unlocking the mystery of this 19th century British conundrum. It was discovered in Britain by Nob Yoshigahara, who brought it across the Atlantic so that we could present it to you as a real puzzler's challenge.

This is a heavy metal puzzle, that looks just as gorgeous as the picture suggests.
This is a very hard puzzle, though. The object is to free the metal ring. It took me several hours to solve this one. Might be too hard for children. Still, it's gorgeous, so it's a good puzzle to have out on display.

The holes and rim pieces are of different sizes, so these two metal pieces are actually equivalent to a complex maze on a toroidal grid. A wonderful design by master puzzlemaker Oskar van Deventer.

Cast Puzzle-SPIRAL (brain stimulator Level: 5) Review

Cast Puzzle-SPIRAL (brain stimulator Level: 5)

I was curious when I ordered this what the other side looked like. I looks just the same as the front. In fact it's just big fat solid puzzle pieces. Knowing that, this one can't be too hard, right? Well, it's not. Logic it through, and when logic fails assume there must be a twist. It is just that trait that I think makes a good puzzle. It lays everything out in front of you, and requires that you use reason skills to beat it. You work through that logic confident that following the obvious path will lead to the solution, only to find yourself at the end of your logic with nowhere else to go and seemingly nowhere closer to the solution.
I'm not disapointed by this puzzle because it has a satisfying feel, and is quite interesting and it at least took me to that point of desperation that any good puzzle must, if only for a moment. It has reasonable replay value, and I think it's harder to put back together than to take apart.
In all a very worthy and entertaining puzzle.

Cast O'Gear Review

Cast O'Gear
Average Reviews:

This is by far one of the coolest puzzles I have ever seen.
Even after you solve it, it makes an awesome desk toy; it's immensely satisfying to simply play with and move the gear around. While it isn't super difficult to solve this by accident after moving the gear around randomly for a long time, coming up with an actual solution (by which I mean, a full movement algorithm, with which you could reliably move any tooth of the gear into any of the six faces of the cube in any desired orientation) will take quite a bit of thought. For someone new to the puzzle scene, this is probably the best place to start.
Like all Hanayama's puzzles, it's built rock-solid and will never bend or break unless you're really trying to, so it'll basically last forever. And it only has two pieces (which are pretty big), so it'll also be pretty tough to loose one of the parts.
If you're seeking a serious challenge, this is decidedly NOT going to be it. This is just a casual puzzle that's pretty to look at and fun to play with. I honestly couldn't recommend this enough for someone who's either new to puzzles, or just wants an awesome desk toy. For people who have experience solving these types of puzzles, this one is admittedly going to be pretty easy to solve.

My husband enjoy these brain metal puzzles to pass time every now and then, we ordered two puzzles but the nut/bolt one was more like a guessing game than anything else. We enjoy the ones you have to fidget with that are two, three or more pieces to intertwine, etc.

The nuts and bolts appearance may lull you into believing this to be a straightforward puzzle, but it is a total brain drain. Inventor Oskar van Deventer presents two challenges: 1) remove the small nuts by disassembling the nutcase, and 2) change the order of the wording on the bolts from nut-case to case-nut.

Ring - Cast Puzzle - Level 4 Review

Ring - Cast Puzzle - Level 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a 30 year old guy, and I've always loved these kinds of puzzles. This one was actually a lot of fun, and the solution is simpler than you'd think. That's what's so hard about it. I actually spent about half an hour, while looking at the picture for reference, trying to get this back into one piece. I'm still having fun playing with it, watching how the pieces slide together... and of course, challenging my friends with it.
I just wish it was a bit larger. This is definitely too large to be classified as a ring, but it could be a bracelet for a young child or very small woman. I don't really have anything bad to say about this... I just don't think it's 5 stars worthy.

Hanayama USHY34 Loop Cast Metal Brain Teaser Puzzle Review

Hanayama USHY34 Loop Cast Metal Brain Teaser Puzzle

This beautifully crafted silver loop can cause some frustrated looks from your friends and family. A simple magnetic closure belies the complexity of re-joining the two halves.
When I received mine as a gift, the two little magnets were inserted with like poles facing. I coaxed one magnet out and was able to remount it so that the puzzle closed properly. After that, it was pure joy watching several people try to put the pieces back correctly while I teased them with the fact they were being stumped by a "Level 1" puzzle.
I've worn this as a necklace and it's nice when someone comments on it. A terrific conversation starter!

Cast Puzzle - DUET (brain stimulator Level:5) Review

Cast Puzzle - DUET (brain stimulator Level:5)
Average Reviews:

This is the most complex and entertaining "remove the ring" puzzle I've ever had the pleasure of solving. Just removing and replacing the ring requires a surprising number of steps, but there are even more challenges that this description doesn't mention.
Do you see the triangles stamped into the middle four crossed bars? Each of those is numbered with the difficulty, 1-4, of placing the ring diagonally across the gap each arrow is pointing at. These extra challenges are a delightful addition to an already fun, durable, and well-made puzzle.
I can't recommend this one enough for puzzle fans!

Hanayama USHY18 News Cast Metal Brain Teaser Puzzle Review

Hanayama USHY18 News Cast Metal Brain Teaser Puzzle
Average Reviews:

Serious puzzle fanatics will enjoy the challenges this puzzle provides, but for the rest of us, it's a flop. I solved it within a few hours, but the process of solving it wasn't fun -- at all. Usually a puzzle of this kind provides a unique combination of intellectual and tactile pleasure; you move pieces in ways that satisfy the hands and frustrate the mind. After you've solved it, your hands have the pleasure of going through those motions, again and again. There are puzzles I haven't touched in years, but I bet I could still solve them in the dark.
This puzzle does not move. The components are connected internally. It has no components to twist and turn. Once you've solved it, you won't get the satisfaction of having your hands learn to solve it by feel. That satisfaction is a TREMENDOUS part of why most people do puzzles. A dedicated puzzler might enjoy it anyway, but for anyone else I'd recommend any of the many puzzles that move this way and that.

Cast Puzzle - QUARTET (brain stimulator Level:6) Review

Cast Puzzle - QUARTET (brain stimulator Level:6)

This toy is very visually appealing. It is TOUGH. I usually tear though these types of things in less than an hour, I have been working on this one on and off for weeks now.
It did get stuck on me once and I had to work pretty hard to get it back to the original start position. This is a level 6 puzzle and it lives up to that.
My one and only complaint is the finish. It is NOT a durable finish and your edges are going to be worn quickly. Other than that - what a great, maddening buy!
