After sitting on the fence about this car I finally grabbed it after Amazon had a great sale on it and I was glad I did. I am a big fan of Shelby Collectibles (S/C) and have about 10 of their other cars. I was very unhappy with the car they released prior to this (2005 Shelby GT500) and was apprehensive about adding another to my collection. The low price on Amazon led me to take a chance and I was rewarded with S/C's best Mustang Diecast.
First things first, this car s NOT a replica of the movie car from "Gone in 60 seconds". It is a replica of the Shelby GT500E that Carroll Shelby has constructed on 1967 Mustangs. There will be a few missing items from the movie such as the nitrous button on the gearshift. The nitrous bottle is in the trunk, however. The design of the hood scoop appears to be a bit off along with a few other minor inaccuracies but by and large. This is a very well done budget replica.
The paint is very well done (beware, there are two versions of this car, the earlier release has a gray/silver that is too light. The car I got from Amazon has the later, correct shade) with a nice shine and good coverage with only a slight mismatch between the plastic and metal parts. The fit of the panels is surprisingly tight. Chrome trim is well done. The engine is detailed to a level that you would not expect from a car in this price range. Lots of separate pieces and even a nice wiring job. Trunk and undercarriage are both detailed well. The interior is just about what you would expect, everything is there, its just a lot of hard black plastic.
There is no carpet and S/C still uses the dog-leg style of door hinge.
The wheels are pretty nice castings and the tires appear to be the correct size but are unbranded.
Overall its a car that is worth the money compared to the more expensive brands. Of course, nobody else makes the GT500E anyway but even if they did, I am not sure I would want to replace this with a model costing twice as much. I doubt you would get twice the car. I am anxious to see what else S/C does with this mould. This car was a step up from their previous Mustangs and that is saying a lot! (except for the 2005)
