18" Aircraft Carrier Playset with Realistic Sounds Review

18 Aircraft Carrier Playset with Realistic Sounds

My son loves aircraft carriers and requested one from Santa, who delivered! So, upon opening it, it is smaller than I had originally thought. It would be great if it were about twice the size. The 6 airplanes it comes with are tiny, I mean really tiny. I'm anticipating losing all of them pretty soon. It does come with a storage compartment for the planes so if your child remembers to put them in, that's fine, but they could easily get misplaced. The carrier is made of pretty cheap plastic, though it is realistic looking. My son so far loves it and can play with it for quite a while and can use some of his larger planes on it. The price was fine for what you get, but I would have paid [...] more for a much sturdier product.
It's fine for my 5 year old, but any older and they might easily destroy it or just be disappointed by its size.

Boeing 737 Plastic Model Air Lingus 1-200 by Matchbox Review

This kit was a fairly good build for a basic, older model. I ended up building it in the Aer Lingus colors and painted the various colored stripes instead of using the decal for this... Not the best B737-200 kit out there but ok for an older model. The only problem was that the decals had yellowed to some degree and kinda spoiled the finish especially noticeable with the decals on over the white paint.

Mighty Mac - Giant 31 inch Aircraft Carrier with 6 Aircraft and Collector's Cards Review

We got this for our son's third birthday (along with a DVD on aircraft carriers and a trip to the USS Midway in San Diego). Of course, he absolutely loves it and although he's only had it for about 2 weeks now, has played with it every day. It is huge, with 2 catapaults to launch the supplied aircraft that come with it, and also has a few great sounds/flashing lights. It is quite a realistic recreation of an A/C carrier and must say that, having been heavily into aircraft as I was growing up, am tempted to rewind the years and play with it myself sometimes! The only couple of negatives I would say are:
1) The planes supplied with it are made-up ones, more akin to alien aircraft. They aren't any of the usual fighter jets you would see on real carrier. Not a huge deal, but a little odd, given everything else is pretty realistic.
2) The planes are also made out of thin plastic, which is probably intentional given that one of the features is to be able to catapault these off the deck. However, I do question durability.
3) The bridge of the ship is a seperate piece that slots into the main deck. However, the slot is pretty thin and it easily keeps coming off - I am considering glueing this down.
Having said the above, the ship is pretty large and durable overall and has space to store the supplied planes beneath the main deck. Love the aircraft elevator too! To conclude, I would say it is on the pricey side for what it is (paid $55 on Amazon), but my son does love it so probably worth it in the end!

Gearbox Military Classics USS Hornet Review

Being both a history buff and a child at heart, I ordered this scale model of the USS Hornet. It is in the 1/700 series and will go nicely with other ships of this scale. Since the deck is covered by B-25 Mitchell bombers, it is immediately apparent to anyone who knows much about WW II history that this was a moment in time when Col. Jimmy Doolittle planned and launched the first American bombing raid on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
I think the level of detail is wonderful for the price range. I would love to be able to afford those exquisite ship models that cost 2 or 3 thousand dollars, but they are not in my budget. This fits the bill.
Great price, great product, great service...what's not to like?
