(More customer reviews)My husband and I bought this for our 4 year old son for Christmas, and he loves it. I wouldn't recommend it for younger kids normally, but our son has experience with other Lionel trains, and knows they need to be played with carefully. He asked for a Caterpillar Train for Christmas after seeing one at Toys R Us, but after reading online reviews, I decided to get one that would be compatible with our other track and cars. We use the train with Fast Track, which is much more durable than the old metal track. The transformer works smoothly, and it has a nice whistle sound. It comes with 2 high quality die cast Cat crawler loaders to haul on a flatcar. They tie down with 2 rubber bands for each loader that are attached to the car. Overall, this train has been a great toy and investment. We hope that with continued care, our son will be able to enjoy it for many years to come, maybe with his own kids someday. If your kids are destructo-bots, or you're looking for a throw-it-in-the-toy-box toy, don't spend the money on this train.

HO Iron Horse Express Set, BNSF Review

(More customer reviews)We bought the CSX version of the Iron Horse at a local hobby shop and my 8 year old train-on-the-brain son loves it (we've had it for 2 day). At full-speed it stays on the track nicely, the engine is a very solid metal-plastic combination with metal wheels and a light in the cab. The hand rails around the engine are frail but designed to pop right back onto the engine (instead of breaking off) if slightly mishandled. Perfect size for a 6 foot Christmas tree display (a larger tree will warrant the purchase of a track expansion set). A far cry from my 1st HO set back in the 70's with all the little metal tabs that got lost and bent (yeah for E-Z track). You still have to be careful when connecting the track but it's a lot easier and sturdier that the old-version HO track. The box says 14 years and up, but my 8 year old has played with his grandfather's HO set and he's fine if an adult helps with the track construction and is around in case of electrical problem when he's playing with it. Controller has an internal breaker that will shut it down if there's a problem (red overload light signals breaker went off on the controller). Unplug and wait 15 minutes and the breaker resets.

(More customer reviews)Wow this was worth the hassle to find. We lucked out and got it at retail price and delivered before Christmas. This was my 6 yr old son's first "real" electric train. What a special train it is. The details are fantastic. Lionel out did themselves! The engine is sooo heavy and very well built. The passenger/observational cars were suprisingly light, but incredibly detailed, quite beautiful! Transformer is powerful, track easy to put together. The characters are to scale and he has placed in the train and they ride around sticking out the end of the cars and in the engine. Smoke stack works perfect. Everything is just great. I guess we have a train enthusiast now. He runs it every day... and is soooo proud of it. He is so careful with it and teaches all his friends all about it. Worth every penny.

(More customer reviews)I got this from Amazon over a year ago and it definitely looks like a Thomas from a day in snow. Now, I ran him a couple of times and he is a decent runner. The only detail I saw was that he was slightly tilted, which wasn't something I'd expect from Bachmann. However, it didn't bother me too much as he still ran well with the truck that had snow flakes on it, a tanker with a wreath on it, and Emily's coach with Christmas decorations. Overall, this is a very nice product you can add to your Christmas tree when the holidays arrive.

N Royal Blue Train Set Review

(More customer reviews)If you liked the B&O, you're sure to love this beauty... and even if you know nothing about the B&O... well, take a look at it... beautiful, isn't it? Don't worry that the tiny locomotive with the motor in the tender won't pull the three cars... it will easily pull them. These are small... remember 19th Century trains were small. This might become your favorite N scale train! Don't worry that it won't stay on the track as long as you run it at realistic speeds. I'd bet that you'll be very happy with one of these and there's Bachmann's limited lifetime warranty. Go for it!

CAT Construction Express Train Review

(More customer reviews)This was my Son's favorite gift! He is 4.5. Follow Amazon's recommended ages. I read the reviews prior to purchase plz this is NOT for a 2 year old. It would be no fun for you or him/her. It seems durable enough. It's not like the ole metal trains but hey this is 2008 everything is plastic and from China. Of course I would not recommend eating any part of the train or track ;-)
After showing my Son and helping snap the track together he was off and running and it's been at least 4 hrs! We made a tunnel out of the box it came in since this is much bigger than his Thomas wooden stuff. Nice change from the wooden or take along. Takes 3 C batteries not included. Enjoy and Happy Holidays and New Year!

(More customer reviews)We purchased this for my 2 year old son. He absolutely loves this table. He had gotten some wooden tracks and everytime someone would set them up for him he would tear them all apart and we would spend the next 1/2 hour searching for them all just a nightmare! The best thing about this is everything is connected no mess to clean up. My son has some wooden Thomas trains and some Play Along Thomas trains (metal ones) the problem with having the two different kinds of trains is none of the tracks would be compatible for both sets however this table really has no tracks only roads with stickers that look like tracks making it virtually possible to fit any small vehicle including hot wheels. My son has spent numerous hours everyday playing with this. The only time the lid goes on is after he goes to bed when I pick up his toys. I like that now I can store all his 50 some Thomas trains inside. Harold the Helicopter even has his own sticker landing pad. This was very easy to put together took at the most 10 minutes. The hardest part was my 2 year old son was standing next to me and when I was trying to put the decals on and was having the trains race at the same time. This table set has one bad thing and that is the little train and cars that came with my table were very cheap and arrived with wheels broken off one and a little windshield broken off of another this could create a choking hazard for little ones. I threw them all away! I did get a pamphlet to register my product with Step 2 and when I went to their website I found that this toy was rated one of the top 5 pre-school toys of 2005 by the Today Show! One more thing I want to mention is I did purchase it through this website it says on product info that it usually ships within 2-3 days well it took over a week to ship! It took 2 weeks from date of purchase until it arrived so if you are buying this for an event where you will need it by a certain date I would recommend purchasing it ahead of time.
