I have to admit I've never actually seen this movie, but I am a huge fan of this series of Universal Monster vehicles from Johnny Lightning. Of those vehicles, the artwork on the sides of the 49 Mercury is up there with the best. You've got the green creature with its arms and hands spread out as if to embrace you with the reeds and water of the swamp in the background, painted in great detail. In this series you can also get the creature on 57 Chevy Bel Air. If that's not enough for you, you'll also find him on two vehicles in the second release series (on red blister pack cards) on a 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, you've got to look hard at the black decals (sides) and light green (bonnet/hood) on this dark green vehicle to even make him out though. Much better is the 1933 Willy's Panel Van - where the creature is painted onto the sides (along with a full moon) and the roof as well. The logo words are also on the doors. That 1933 Willy's Panel Van was one of the few vehicles from the second series where the high quality attention to detail from this first series was reproduced.
As a collector of 1/64 sized die-cast vehicles I haven't come across a series with better artwork than Johnny Lightning's initial Universal Monsters series (released 2004). The attention to detail in capturing each legendary monster in a colourful illustrative scene on the sides, roof, bonnet or boot of each vehicle is extremely well done.
There are 12 cars that come in this series, besides this one the other 11 are
WWII WC54 Ambulance (Dracula themed)
57 Chevy Bel Air convertible (Creature from the Black Lagoon themed)
66 Volkswagen Beetle (Wolfman themed)
40 Ford Pick Up (The Mummy themed)
Haulin' Hearse (The Mummy themed)
66 Cadillac Hearse (Dracula themed)
Frankenstude (Frankenstein's monster)
40 Ford Panel Delivery vehicle (has Dracula movie clip but has all the universal monster theme on the vehicle)
33 Ford Delivery (Bride of Frankenstein themed)
65 Volkswagen Combi (Samba Bus) (Frankenstein's Monster and Wolfman themed)
57 Studebaker Golden Hawk (Bride of Frankenstein themed)
There is the same mini bio on the films on the back of each vehicle's blue cardboard blister pack. There is a bonus film clip still for each vehicle, all are different and do look quite good, though they don't seem like they would be too durable out of the packaging. The one that comes with this vehicle is a photograph of the Black Lagoon, although it could be any swamp for all you'd know. A better film clip still comes with the 57 Chevy Bel Air as it is actually of the creature, smashing through the bamboo poles of a raft or something.
Incidentally second Universal Monsters release came with cars come on a red cardboard backing with car covers instead of movie stills such as Dracula's Hispano Suiza Cabriolet, although there were a few good vehicles, the second overall release was pale in significance to this series.
