Minicraft Models Cessna 150 1/48 Scale Review

Minicraft Models Cessna 150 1/48 Scale

Over many years (72) I've built a lot of plastic models...mostly the good old standard, Revell. After several hours of working on this one it's going in the garbage. Unless you are a precision jeweler with the patience of Job, don't try it. Parts don't fit well and the instructions are very poor. Many times it's hard to tell where to cut the flashing. Even if and when you ever finished this model you'd have to put it in a glass display case, it's so fragile. Very poorly designed kit. I guess I'll have to break down and buy one of the expensive solid models available.

For many pilots, this was the first plane they learned to fly. Simple, forgiving, but just remember, keep the landing speed at 60 mph! (At least that?s what my instructor told me.) This model has a removable engine cowling, which allows you look at the detailed engine and accessories. You can see through the cockpit windows to view the instrument panel, controls and seats. The landing gear is covered by streamlined parts and, to finish it off, the decals offer a colorful red, yellow and black design.

GX-33 Spiderman & Leopardon Soul of Chogokin Metal Figure Review

GX-33 Spiderman and Leopardon Soul of Chogokin Metal Figure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a nice heavy die cast metal SOC "adult collector figure" - dare I say "toy?" Because it isn't, really; nor is it meant to be played with by children. It's a display figure with intricate detail to match the old-school sentai-style Spiderman TV show that aired in Japan. It was inspired by USA's own live-action Spiderman TV show, but of course in Japan, everything has to somehow have a giant robot involved in it, so Spiderman was hooked up with not only a sweet car (that comes with the figure, a little bigger than matchbox-sized) but a wristwatch-like device to call upon the power of Leopardon when the enemies overpowered or over-sized him. He would then hop from his car into Leopardon and continue fighting foes either as a robot or a space ship...kinda vehicle.
The base for the figure is cool because you can store the car in it. The figure also comes with accessories (not a lot like some other sets, though) and a larger-sized vinyl Spiderman figure, including his wrist device, and a stand to hold him up. Leopardon is one of my favorites even though the transformation is kind of basic. The robot lays down and becomes an awkward kind of ship with a big yellow leopard head on the top. Like Battle Fever J, the show is less-known about in the States than later super-sentai style shows, but I'm glad I nabbed one because it's just a really cool robot design. I'm still not sure what a leopard has to do with the spider theme, they never really explain that, but with these shows we're talking about heavy suspension of belief, so...we'll let that go.
4 stars for not really meant to be played with. It's for collectors. 0 stars for educational value: none to speak of, shouldn't apply. 4 stars for it's heavy die cast & plastic, but it has very tiny pieces. Transforms, although the transformation is somewhat less than spectacular (not the toy's fault, really). 4 stars overall: It's not exactly "huge," in fact it's one of the smaller SOC. It represents the TV show's figure perfectly & comes with neat extras including to-size Spiderman in sports car, a base, and larger size vinyl Spiderman figure. Great addition to any SOC / Godaikin collection!
I got it for $120...price will likely go up over time since only so many are made and then no more are produced. The longer you wait the harder it is to find SOC sets.

Hot Wings C-172 BLUE/WHITE Review

Hot Wings C-172 BLUE/WHITE

The landing gear on this toy replica aren't very resilient or sturdy, so a kid that is rough on their toys will have this plane beat up pretty quick. I bought this to have on my desk because of how much I enjoyed the story about an adventure to Peru in Chester Isaiah Muncie's third book, "The Comedy Of Interaction In Human Relationships," which is a short story of under half a dozen chapters among a potpourri of topics in 33 chapters that are Volume 3 of that set of books. It's holding up fine for a sentimental old fool like me. But as a toy for kids to play with, I'd wager the landing gear or propellor might not keep their shape. Other than that, the detail is pretty good, and helps me visualize the aforementioned story elements. For the money, this little metal toy plane is satisfying. Oh and like you've never bought a toy as an adult just for fun. Go ahead and buy it. I won't tell anybody.

Ordered July 12,'11 w/ 2 day Prime promised. Confirmation says won't ship til Sept. 12th. Amazon has always been terrific with their service. Some of these third party sellers are quite lax, to say the least.

This puzzle, introduced to us by Nob Yoshigahara, is based on an original design called the Puzzle Ring. Popular in 15th century Europe, it was actually used as an official marriage ring in some circles. See if you can pull the rings apart - then have your husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend reunite them!

Tron Legacy Series 1 Die Cast Vehicle Recognizer Review

Tron Legacy Series 1 Die Cast Vehicle Recognizer

Although I did not open the packaging, as it went straight to the collection wall, I examined it very well and it is a dead on match to the model in Legacy. Has a good weight (I'm estimating the removal of the packaging) and appears to be quite sturdy. Also, for a small size, they choose well. Not too big, and not too small. Overall, I;m very impressed as a collector.

BePuzzled Hanayama Cast Metal Brainteaser Puzzles - Hanayama Equa Puzzle (Level 5) Review

First, this puzzle is a work of art. It looks awesome and is extremely well made. It's solid, polished metal and it's nice and heavy. A friend of mine had one and I was shocked to find out that the price was under $50. Brilliant, unique design. It's a refreshing change from the common loop-based puzzles. I've worked at it for at least 3 hours with no success...I can't comment on the how cool or cheap the solution is, but I can say that it is quite difficult. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique, extremely challenging puzzle.

This sphere-shaped puzzle represents a planet and its surrounding ring. Positioned snugly inside the ring, the planet looks as if it cannot be removed. It may appear that all you can do is rotate it on its axis, but is that really the case? Hold this puzzle invented by Oskar van Deventer and have an intergalactic, mind-expanding challenge!

BePuzzled Hanayama Cast Metal Brainteaser Puzzles - Hanayama Seahorse Puzzle (Level 3) Review

BePuzzled Hanayama Cast Metal Brainteaser Puzzles - Hanayama Seahorse Puzzle (Level 3)

This Seahorse Hanayama puzzle is really cool. It feels great in the hands and is well built. It even has a little hole at the top of one of the horses so that it can be worn as jewelry. It took me an hour until it came apart, and then another hour to put it back into the starting position again. One of my friends solved it in 10 minutes however, but he still liked it a lot. It took another 4 hours before I had the movement really fluid, and for a couple of those hours it was quite frustrating (in a good way!). Now I enjoy playing with it sometimes when I watch TV. Any time a friend comes over and sits on my couch, they immediately pick it up from the coffee table and start playing with it.
It's definitely one of the easiest Hanayama toys, hence it's level 3 out of 6 hardness rating, and a great first one to buy if you are new to this brand of puzzle.
Way more advanced puzzles by this brand that I have used and recommend: Vortex, Enigma, Cast Quartet and Cast Spiral. The Revomaze brand maze toys are also really unique and highly addictive (just start at the easy levels, because the hard ones can take 40+ hours!)
Revomaze Revomaze Obsession - Blue - Difficulty Rating 50/100 (difficulty 10 of 10)
