Matchbox Collectibles Curtiss P-40E Warhawk Review

Matchbox Collectibles Curtiss P-40E Warhawk

General Claire Chennault would be rolling in his grave.
The item pictured is the legendary Supermarine Spitfire of Battle of Britain fame, not the Curtiss P-40 of Flying Tiger fame, which performed its service on the opposite side of the planet from where the Spitfire did.
Clearly this vendor does not know their product line.

Star Wars Ultra Titanium Republic Gunship 1st Release Review

Star Wars Ultra Titanium Republic Gunship 1st Release
Average Reviews:

BFG
This thing makes the 3" look foolish.
same only more detail
> intimidating
50% metal 50% plastic
moving parts:
cockpit opens
front guns swivel
wing guns 360@
side guns dual pivot
This doesn't come with display case.
It has a super sized stand which is deficient.
Unlike its smaller cousin, the 2 parts don't snap together, only press fit.
Due to weight, the pieces pull apart.
I recommend hot glue ( no damage ) to increase surface tension.
You should do the same for stand to undercarriage.
1 little bump ... OOPS
Better call MAACO
LOL

Transformers Universe Autobot Ambush - Roadbuster and Dirge Review

Transformers Universe Autobot Ambush - Roadbuster and Dirge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a transformers fan for about a year now and this is the first review I've written about one...or in this case two. They are two old
transformers characters represented in new bodies. Both look excellent in vehicle mode, especially Roadbuster.Roadbuster is my favorite of the two,but Dirge is just as awesome as Roadbuster. In robot modes, they both have several gimmicks.Roadbuster has two machine guns, which with the help of a special key, flip open to reveal a lot of (non-firing)missles.He also has four panels which flip to reveal even more missiles, not to mention a knife he can hold in his hand.Dirge has a working missile launcher and two key activated blades. Both are very posable, and the transformation on both is easy, with the help of instructions, which are more helpful than usual. Both are highly recommended, especially now that Target has them for $20.88 in the clearence isle.

Ben 10 Kevin's Action Cruiser Review

Ben 10 Kevin's Action Cruiser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 4 year old loves Ben 10 and Kevin is his favorite so last Christmas we got him the cruiser. He loves it, all though we finally ditched it a week ago. It is built to change and it comes apart rather than break, but it is always apart. My son can't play with it without a door or the engine cover coming off. Then he runs to us to fix it. I can't tell you how annoying contiually putting this back together gets after the 100th time something comes off.
Its a little too complicated for a 4 year old to put back together, so what are we to do. I wouldn't buy again.

Just like in the hit "Ben 10 Alien Force" cartoon, this muscle car is ready to roll. It transforms into battle mode to fight the bad guys, and kids can use the car's lab to make "planetary powder" with the included capsules for more fun. It includes an exclusive Kevin figure. Bandai. Ages: 4+

Transformers Hasbro Commemorative Series VI Autobot Grapple Review

Transformers Hasbro Commemorative Series VI Autobot Grapple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was a Transformers fanatic as a kid and now work in the same profession as Grapple does, so I bought him for my desk at work. This is a terrific toy that looks sharp in both vehicle and robot modes. Best of all, this reissued version is virtually identical to the original 1980's version with just a few changes that, in my opinion, improve upon the original.
The few differences in appearance are that his eyes are now blue instead of yellow, his crane hook is now grey instead of chrome, and his Autobot symbol is now painted on instead of being a sticker. As with the original, Grapple's toy design is excellent because the functions of the truck carry over to robot mode. Even in robot mode, he can swing his extendable crane over and use it as he would in truck mode, which adds a lot of play value. However, this version's crane ratchets instead of moving smoothly like the original. Although some people might have problems with it, I think that the ratcheting design helps prevent the crane from becoming loose with use.
For accessories, Grapple comes with a small rifle and some rockets that you can switch with his detachable hands. The original Grapple could launch his hands or rockets (very weakly), but as a result they ended up falling out very easily. This version is reworked so that the launching feature is gone and the hands and rockets just snap into place, which is an improvement. Grapple is built quite solid and durable. Unfortunately, like the original, there is is no leg articulation, but it really does not detract much at all from the toy.
This is a terrific reissue of a classic. I highly recommend Grapple as an addition to any Transformer collection!

Star Wars Basic Figure Stormtrooper Review

Star Wars Basic Figure Stormtrooper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To be honest, I got this Stormie to take amusing pictures of and so I could play Star Wars with my 7 yo son. You wouldn't believe how expressive they are and how you can put them into hilarious poses with just a bit of blue tack and few doll-sized accessories. They are fully jointed and poseable, and I now have four living with me in my house. We are the 128th Tiny Imperial Fighting Legion. My son's even built stacking Lego bunk beds for them
Hey, winters are long here in Bavaria, and the weather is wretched. We do what we have to so we keep laughing.

Transformers Alternators - Ford Mustang GT (Wheeljack) Review

Transformers Alternators - Ford Mustang GT (Wheeljack)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wheeljack is by FAR the most difficult of all Transformers I've ever tried. He is the only one besides RiD Ultra Magnus I've had to use the instructions for, but they are pitifully inadequate. His legs aren't too bad, but his upper body, holy cow! Take my advice and remove the doors (they come off and go back on extremely easily). Even then it's tough, and getting him back is even worse! I relished in the challenge, though, and have managed to become astute at getting him from one mode to the other. It feels strange to take pride in such an accomplishment, but I can't help it.
His Mustang mode looks great though it can be tough to get everything lined up exactly right, and his robot mode is nothing less than impressive! His sword seems kind of stubby, though it actually looks like a sword which is not always the case with American Transformers. His white and blue paint job looks nice, and his head looks like the classic Wheeljack head. His legs look like they ought to be stiff and cumbersome, but they are actually very easy to pose.
The doors can be annoying until you learn how to transform him properly (which is why I say take them off for now), and I had trouble with the piece that connects them to the shoulder. The screw kept falling out of mine (I super glued it finally) which can add to your pains although hopefully that's not common.
Someone asked me once if these were still as fun as they used to be. With Wheeljack's level of difficulty I wouldn't call him "fun," but as a display piece he is virtually unrivaled! Definitely don't buy him for a child's toy.
Availability sucks. I watched for a couple of weeks before I was able to place an order. Coming back to write this review I see that he's already unavailable again. Good look. If you need instructions on his transformation check out www.csspace.com/transformers

Transformers Optimus Prime 20th Anniversary Figure Review

Transformers Optimus Prime 20th Anniversary Figure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me just say that this is by far the coolest transformer ever made.
It's a little difficult to transform at first (because you're afraid of breaking something). It doesn't break easily, however. Most parts are designed to come off and then snap right back on. While this is a good idea, the only draw back to this is that some things come off too easily. Such as, for instance, the feet.
Here's a tip I got from someone else that works well if the joints (in this or any transformer) get too loose. Use clear nail polish on the inside of the joint, wait for it to dry and then put the leg/arm/foot etc. back on. It works really well. For the first time in years, my Grimlock stands properly. Woo-hoo.
A few comments about the two versions of this:
The one shown here is the Hasbro version. The other is the Japanese Takara version. The differences are that the Hasbro one has shorter smoke stacks, battle damage, and a black gun. The takara version has longer smoke stacks, no battle damage, and a grey gun. It also costs about $25 more than the U.S. Hasbro version.
Sounds like the Takara version should be better, right? Actually it isn't. I have them both, of course. When I first got the Hasbro version I didn't like the battle damage and wanted one without it. Now that I have one without battle damage, I have to say it looks more like plastic in certain areas, namely the shoulders, rists and knee joints in particular. The battle damage actually makes the Hasbro version look less like plastic.
The longer smoke stacks are definitely better, but the grey gun is a bummer. Don't these people know that Optimus has a BLACK gun, LONG smoke stacks, and is played by PETER CULLEN? Without those things, it's just not Optimus. (Do you know why he didn't do the voice of Optimus in Armada? Because they didn't ask him. Can you believe that?? i figured he just didn't want to do it, but nope. He said it was because they didn't ask him. I hope the people making the live action movie are listening... GET PETER CULLEN OR WE'RE GONNA RIOT! Get it?)
If you're looking for the Takara version, the U.S. amazon site doesn't have it. It's pretty easy to find with a simple web search, however.
Oh yes, I almost forgot. The Takara version comes with a trailer... sort of. The package folds into a surprisingly real looking trailer. With the exception of the wheels, that is. It's pretty cool, though.
To make a long story short, I think I like the Hasbro version better, despite the dinky smoke stacks.
And also, this is the Optimus that I waited 20 years for. Don't waste any money on the armada or energon toys if you don't have this one yet. If you end up like me, you'll be looking at passing trucks on the highway looking for the old style flat fronted Optimus trucks. Heh heh. Roll out.

Nice item. Looks good but color is a little off. The picture shows a bright yellow as expected but the actual color on my statue is more of a darker brown mustard yellow. Heavy and solid.

852868 1/24 Miami Vice Daytona Spyder Review

852868 1/24 Miami Vice Daytona Spyder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently picked up this reissue of the kit, having built the original back in the 80s. The only glitch I see is that the Ferrari logo decals present in the original issue are not included in the reissue. This may be due to the fallout from the lawsuit against the producers of "Miami Vice" filed in the 80s by Ferrari. The car this model represents was NOT a real Ferrari, but a fiberglass-bodied replica built for the show on a Corvette chassis & drivetrain. The lawsuit resulted in this car being destroyed in an episode & being replaced by a real Ferrari Testarossa.
This kit accurately represents the original Ferrari "clone", even down to the GM engine. The only thing that could be added to better replicate the look of the original are aftermarket Ferrari badge decals.

Transformers Movie Deluxe Bumblebee 1974 Camaro Review

Transformers Movie Deluxe Bumblebee 1974 Camaro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having purchased this early, I must say I want to like this figure. Considering that because of VW's stubbornness this could not be a Bug but instead a Camaro, it's not bad, although I would have appreciated some typical Bumblebee horns.
In robot mode, it has some stability problems, but I've seen worse. In car mode, it nice. [...] But even afterwards, I still haven't been able to totally transform it back to car as the front of the Camaro won't stay put; it keeps flopping down. Just the initial transformation was worrisome; I kept thinking I am about to break the toy, and now when I want to turn it back to car, it won't go back in position.
If you like Bumblebee, you'll probably want him, but he's more for a collector to have on his shelf than for a kid to actually play with.

Bumblebee works best in silence and solitude, acting as an unseen guardian over his assigned target. Don?t let the fact that he likes to remain hidden fool you though when it comes to a fight, he rushes in, both plasma cannons blazing. Convert this autobot figure from menacing robot mode to Classic Camaro mode and back again. It features double missile-launching blasters in robot mode. This is one awesome figure for your collection.
