My son is 3 yrs. old and into Hotwheels, etc. When he learned about Blackbird's in a book he was fascinated with them. I was happy to find this toy in the same size and durability range of his other vehicles.

1/48 HSO SR71 Blackbird Review

I believe this kit was first issued in the 1970's. It is mighty big, mighty impressive, and a tad short of detail.
The principal problem with a re-issued kit is that the older technology problems are never really corrected. The ship is dead-on accurate, quite surprising given the restricted data available during the Cold War era. However, all SR-71 kits during this period from all manufacturers were shallow on cockpit detail, very disappointing in that the canopy can be left open at the builder's discretion.
Once upon a time, True Details Corp. produced an excellent add-on for this kit's cockpit; I don't know if is still available. Another area which can be greatly enhanced are the exhaust nozzles, via yet another after-market product, Cutting Edge Modelworks nozzle assemblies, which is still available.
You will need four hands or two really big, dexterous ones to assemble this kit. If you have never used glue clamps, this kit will give you an appreciation for them.
In my humble opinion, Testor's cheated you out of the much more interesting YF-12A "interceptor" version. It's main attraction is a two-tone color scheme. Of course, a motivated modeler could kit-bash a one-of-a-kind substitute, as there is now previously classified data for it.
Due to its size, I cannot recommend it to a beginner. Decal adhesion to wing corrugations might be a problem but decal-softening solvents will save the day. This kit plus add-on extras could produce a masterpiece in basic black. Don't forget those glue clamps.

F-16 Fighting Falcon Thunderbird Pullback Review

This is only about 5 inches long which is less than the 8 to 9 inches advertised. My sons do enjoy playing with it. It is made of metal and has held up to normal abuse. Overall, it is expensive for what you get.

Take Note: the picture shows a Wildcat with wartime blue-top, gray-bottom paint and drop tanks...
The model I received had the all-gray with yellow identifying peacetime paint job and drop tanks (which seemed weird...I'd never thought I'd see a pre-war Wildcat F4F-3 with drop tanks, I thought that was a late '42 kinda thing)
Anyways...that's not so important...the model itself, in fact, is VERY well detailed. I'd recommend getting the zero-sen model as well and then just studying the two of them...it's really enlightening!
Recommended!

SR-71 Blackbird Review

My son (6 yrs old) absolutely loves blackbirds, so i chose this one as a small xmas gift. I'll admit that I chose it because of it's price point and free shipping. But it did arrive with the front wheel missing. The plane was very poorly packed with no padding at all - just sitting in a small box. With the front wheel missing, the pull-back and release feature doesn't work. So I had to return it. I'm chancing it for another one and hoping the next one arrives in one piece. If so, it'll get my 5 stars.

Revell 1:110 SR-71A Blackbird Desktop Review

About 18 months ago my grandson expressed an interest in model airplanes. Grandpa quickly responded by ordering a couple of Revelle Snaptite planes since no glue or painting was required for my 5 year old Grandson. Building these is an excellent introduction to this hobby. I'm not sure who had the most fun! We have built just about every Revell Snaptite model airplane and the skies above in his bedroom are becoming full. This last one he assembled 100% by himself! We are waiting for Revell to announce more.

1:110 scale. Flying at speeds in excess of mach 3(almost 2000 mph!) the Blackbird was instrumental in gathering strategic reconnaissance info from altitudes too high to detect. Features: Snap-tite construction, desktop display stand, bonus decals. SKILL 1
