(More customer reviews)This is made of hard plastic and looks to be able to last a long time and withstand regular play from children. We bought this for a 2-year-old with the idea that he would like to see the car speed down the ramps -- and that's exactly what happened. After showing him how the car would go down the ramps, he immediately started playing with it by himself.
It is relatively easy to put together -- we completed construction within about 15 minutes. However, some of the pieces are rather snug, and I would caution about using too much force. Make sure that the pieces are not obstructed by the frame before pushing hard when you encounter resistance.
The only criticism is that the car wash is difficult to operate because you do not have easy access to it. Otherwise, the ramp guides, "fix-it" area near the top level and the elevator all work well. The elevator is the only thing that appears to be flimsy, but again, with usual play, this shouldn't break. If a child because a little overzealous, the plastic mechanism could break.
The last thing I want to say is -- what is up with the price on Amazon?!?! I paid $16 for this at ToysRUs on a special sale, so I'm really confused at the price on the Amazon website.
