My child loves this Sodor Birthday Celebration 3-Pack he received for a birthday gift from a neighbor. We actually have the Percy set that comes with soccer balls as the gift part, but I am told it could be a number of different things. It has held up remarkable well to drops and other mishaps. All the paint is still intact after several months of use. Overall we are quite pleased with the purchase.
I am usually a stickler about one type of toy from my child but because of entertainment reasons my child has a few of these Take Along Thomas toys. We love the wooden ones and want to keep them at home because of the price we don't want to see them lost.

It dents as easy as a cola can. If it were made better, it would be worth the money. Save your money on this one and find something better made.

(More customer reviews)These guys are definitely second tier characters. They appear as villians/bullies in several episodes. If your child makes up stories as he plays, he may want some villians in his set.
Other bad boy engines would include Diesel, and Diesel Ten. Diesels generally are cast as rivals to the coal powered "steamies".
Salty is a "good" diesel, as is Mavis- a "female" diesel.

Thomas the Train: Take-n-Play Harold And The Search Cars Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for the retractable Harold with the magnet and stumbled across this. I was worried it would be too small to pick up the wooden cargo loads, but it works perfectly!! Kids won't get frustrated with this Harold. With the retractable Harold kids could have problems lining up the string with the loads. This one all you have to do is place it over the cargo load and go. The magnet hold is actually better with the wooden railway than the take n play pieces. The plastic loads it comes with do not stay well and you have to line them up perfectly to get it to attach. This is not the case with he wooden loads. I would defiantly recommend this for the wooden railway. I can see myself buying another to stop fighting over it. The only thing about this is that it is heavy. If a small child were to throw it it could definitely do some damage.

(More customer reviews)My son, 17 months old, has become increasingly interested in trains so I bought him this one a few days ago. He hasn't put it down since. He constantly carries it wherever he goes and pitches a fit if you try to take it from him. He loves hearing the noises it makes either by using the button on top or pushing it all over the floor.
NOTE: The "Take Along Thomas & Friends" trains are not compatible with the standard wooden tracks. The wheels are smaller and the width between the wheels is much narrower to fit on the standard tracks. You can purchase track sets that do work with the "take along" trains, seperately. We purchased a track set and it's cute but I think it's a little too mature for my little one. He doesn't understand the concept of pushing the train around the track, yet. And the trains do tend to come off easily from the plastic track. Definitely, the age recommendation is correct for the train track sets - 3 years and older. But I think the trains are okay for younger toddlers as long as they are supervised in case one of the wheels were to come off.

Made of steel, they are able to take abuse from a toddler yet still are easy to maneuver. We expect they'll become heirlooms, along with other Thomas the Train cars. These kinds of toys help develop fine motor skills, encourage imaginary play, and hold up exceedingly well.

Daisy is one of my son's favorites, and the train looks great. He loves it, and being die cast I know it will hold up to the beating he'll likely give it.
