(More customer reviews)These trains are not compatible with the wooden set but are wonderfully portable, durable and much more reasonably priced than the wooden set. I can fit a huge set into a storage bin that slides under the bed rather than have trains taking over my house.

(More customer reviews)My son, 17 months old, has become increasingly interested in trains so I bought him this one a few days ago. He hasn't put it down since. He constantly carries it wherever he goes and pitches a fit if you try to take it from him. He loves hearing the noises it makes either by using the button on top or pushing it all over the floor.
NOTE: The "Take Along Thomas & Friends" trains are not compatible with the standard wooden tracks. The wheels are smaller and the width between the wheels is much narrower to fit on the standard tracks. You can purchase track sets that do work with the "take along" trains, seperately. We purchased a track set and it's cute but I think it's a little too mature for my little one. He doesn't understand the concept of pushing the train around the track, yet. And the trains do tend to come off easily from the plastic track. Definitely, the age recommendation is correct for the train track sets - 3 years and older. But I think the trains are okay for younger toddlers as long as they are supervised in case one of the wheels were to come off.

(More customer reviews)all the diecast Bob the Builder toys are the way to go. My son has the whole "team" and he loves them. The magnetic roller trailer attaches just like the Brio trains simple for a todler to do so more time to play.
The "talking" plastic Bob the Builder toys are junk. We had to put them away (hidden) because they fall apart with even the gentalest play. Unless you want to keep puting something back together and deal with a disapointed little one, stick with the dicast.

Take Along Thomas & Friends - James Review

(More customer reviews)A well-meaning grandparent purchased this James for my son. The engine and tender are made of die-cast metal and the magnets can be used in both directions, unlike the wooden Thomas cars and engines. And therein lies the problem. All take along Thomas engines are NOT compatible with the popular Thomas wooden railway toys, meaning that this engine does not fit on the wooden track, and the wooden Thomas engines do not fit on track and playsets built for this James engine and his friends.

A medium-sized engine. He likes to think of himself as a really splendid engine. This can occasionally lead to grandiose ideas about the sort of work suitable for such a noble creature, which invariably lands James in trouble.
