I have been a collector of 1/18 Hot Wheels Formula 1 cars for years and Minichamps card have always been the best quality by far. With this, the latest installment of what many consider to be the most attractive Formula 1 car ever built, Hot Wheels really went to great lengths to close the gap. The metallic red paint is immaculate and the carbon fiber sections are absolutely outstanding. The use of actual metal for the front-end antennas is a really nice touch and the decals are flawless. Also, to my surprise, the wheels are actually scrubbed so they look like real tires versus cheap rubber. I must admit that I was a bit surprised, if not a little disappointed, to see that a driver was not included, but the cockpit also includes amazing detail with real seat belts (versus decals), so Hot Wheels gets another 'nod' to their attention to detail. The only three complaints I have are 1) the front wheels are no longer steerable. I know Minichamps is now doing this as well to cut costs, but it is nice to pose the cars with turned wheels, 2)where the seam where the front wing attaches to the nose take a little away from the sweeping lines of the real car (very nit-picky), and 3) their continued reluctance to apply the bar code decals. At $100, do they really still consider this a children's toy? In conclusion, this car is leaps and bounds above anything else Hot Wheels has produced (including the first-release 1/18 F2008 and the so-so 1/18 2009 F60). It's a little unfortunate that it is so expensive, but you get what you pay for.
