First off, I didn't know anything about the Hot Wheels Elite brand until just last month. I was skeptical about the "Elite" branding because I had never been impressed by my regular Hot Wheels 1/18 die-cast models. Before purchasing this Hot Wheels Elite F40 model, I already had the regular Hot Wheels 1/18 die-cast of the F40. I wasn't impressed by the regular Hot Wheels version of the F40 because: the engine was just painted all silver, the red paint is more orange-red, the regular version doesn't even have the iconic black trim running across the side of the car, the clear plastic windows didn't look anything like glass, etc.
I decided to give the Hot Wheels Elite F40 a try - hoping to replace the regular Hot Wheels F40 with a better more detailed model. Wow, was I right. Putting the Hot Wheels Elite version side-by-side with the Hot Wheels regular version, it's like night and day. The Elite version of the F40 has: engine that is painted just like the actual engine of the F40, painted calipers, real mesh for the rear grille, the plastic windows actually look like real glass, the red paint is actually Ferrari red, no rough edges on the die-cast, seat-belts are made of real fabric, detailed dashboard instead of just a single piece of solid plastic, and I could go on and on. Oh, and why did I mention perfection in the Elite version? The engine in the Elite version actually has real metal grille/filters in it vs. just plastic in the regular version. And upon really close examinations, it looks like the metal grille/filters were created by using laser to cut/craft it. It has gotta be laser cut because the holes in the metal grille/filters are so tiny and perfect - it has got to be laser cut.
I highly recommend this Hot Wheels Elite model because it is borderline to the same quality you'd find in a Kyosho model, but at a fraction of Kyosho's price.
So would I recommend spending the extra $20 to get the Elite version? YES, YES, YES!!! The regular Hot Wheels version of this model looked like a big TOY sitting on my shelf. The Elite version has so much more detail that had been replicated with precision and accuracty, that it actually looks like the real thing - as if Hot Wheels took the real car, and put it through a shrink machine. This Elite model is very competitive to the Kyosho F40 model, but the Elite is only a fraction of the price.
