(More customer reviews)The 1:64 scale Caterpillar 988H Wheel Loader from Norscot, is a unique, and sturdy addition to most kid's toy collection - bound to get plenty of use if they play in the dirt a lot. And realistic enough to appeal to many adults who collect diecast metal toys as well. It has a good amount of authentic detail, and the movement of the articulating boom, bucket, and steering is true to life. The "hydraulic" pistons are a little stiff, but just as in reality, a little lube helps smooth out the action.
The railings on the vehicle, and a few other pieces are actually flexible plastic. But they're somewhat malable if you want to make them look less bent in places, which they often do.
Being 1:64 scale, it is also built to a similar scale as many other toy cars. So you can pair them up with this wheel loader to match the real world size difference which is fun. For around $30 you could do worse. But as an adult collector who bought this very toy - plus the CAT 985C L Hydraulic Excavator, for $4.15 each with tax, on clearance at KMart, naturally I consider it a raging bargain at that price. I would rate this toy higher, but I am judging it on the $30 price range that it more typically falls into.
