Large Construction Play Set with crane, elevator and 5 Vehicles Review

Large Construction Play Set with crane, elevator and 5 Vehicles
Average Reviews:

I was looking for an inexpensive construction toy for my 3 year old son. This looked like a fun play set but it is a little lame. The crane falls apart when you spin it because it does not clear the back of the set. I thought the crane would move up and down but it has plastic 'ropes' that are fixed and do not move. The ramps detach when you move it. The wrecking ball knocks down the blue shed easily but too easily for my taste. Makes for a high mom/dad maintenance requirement to reset it over and over. The die cast trucks are what you would expect for the price. I expected the toy to be a little on the flimsy side since it was inexpensive I just wish the crane really worked and it held together better.

Caterpillar 55036 1:32 Scale 226 Skid Steer Loader with Work Tools Review

Caterpillar 55036 1:32 Scale 226 Skid Steer Loader with Work Tools

Bought this for a young boy who wanted a replacement for the "Bobcat" that his dog chewed up. I thought I would get a die cast model that would be less appealing to the dog. Very disappointed as soon as I opened the box. 1:32 scale didn't sound too small, but this thing is tiny. Still waiting for two more Norscot toys I ordered and after looking at the dimensions more carefully, I suspect I may be returning the whole order. More of a small replica than a child's toy. He has not seen it yet, so maybe it will work out, but pay close attention to the dimensions before you purchase any of the Norscot toys. It's really a shame I have to make a choice between cheap, expensive plastic toys like Bruder, or metal toys that may last but are too small to play with.

My three year old eventually broke this...but after 6 months of heavy use. Lots of digging at the beach. The Cat tracks were the first to go....then the bucket. I blame the usage more than the product....it s fairly well made.We even bought a second excavator. Go for it!

I purchased this product with the impression that it was die-cast construction. The trailer on the semi feels die-cast, but that is the only thing. Not impressive! Otherwise, my boys love them and they'll be broken in no time, but what can you say about plastic toys.

My kids loves these. They are made very realistically. It would be a bonus if they were made to scale of one another. Be careful giving these to younger kids or if there are younger kids around or if you just don't want to lose parts as the excavator arm and truck tailgate both come off and can be a swallowing hazard or jet get lost easily.

Low loader with Four Wheel Loader Review

Low loader with Four Wheel Loader

We received this as a gift, and thankfully so, because it's a bit pricey. I won't dock the rating based on price, because my 2 y/o son LOVES this toy.
Because of its high-quality German construction and weight, I believe it will last a long time. Even though it's (mostly) die-cast metal, I don't see any sharp edges or corners that could injure the child --- just don't let him throw it! As I've said, it's heavy. And just to be safe, your child should be beyond the "everything goes in the mouth" phase before you consider buying this toy. Oh yeah, the plastic ramp on the trailer comes off easily. Just take it off and put it away somewhere if you think your child will keep on taking it off. The tires are rubber, but there is no sign that they'll easily come off.
It is small, but this makes it easy for a child to handle and carry it around. I put some rice in a shoe-box lid and my son will entertain himself for a long time. ("Scoop rice!") Although it's very portable, the price also means that you might hesitate to let it out of the house, lest you lose it!
One oddity with this toy is that the 'digger' is a little wider than the trailer bed. Whether this is accurate to the real thing, I don't know, but this results in a problem with stability: the digger doesn't sit securely on the trailer. A toddler can easily get frustrated (as my son does) when trying to 'transport' the digger on the lowboy. The digger will fall off at 'higher speeds'.
Another problem, for toddlers again, is the way that the trailer attaches to the semi tractor. The tractor and trailer must be at right angles for the hitch to insert into the hole. Toddlers might not understand this and the frustration results (for the child and for the parent!). But this is life.
As a daddy, I appreciate the realism of this toy. The tires, joints and hydraulics look just like the real thing. (I know this because I've seen, uh, videos -- on YouTube.) Even the wheel hubs have 'lug nuts' (tiny bumps, not actual separate parts). Overall, this toy is a winner.
P.S. If you want a dump truck to go with this, I recommend a the Mattel Matchbox 2008 MBX Construction 1:64 Scale Die Cast Metal Car # 67 - Red Dump Tanker Truck with Black Dumpster. But go to Walmart, where it costs $0.97 + tax. I don't know why it's $9.99 (+ $5.10 S&H!?) here at Amazon. It's lightweight, but it costs a fraction of the price of the Volvo Dumper, by the same maker of this Front Loader and 'Low Boy' Truck.
[CORRECTION: In an earlier version, I stated that the bucket was plastic. The sentence has been deleted. It is not plastic, but coated die-cast metal.]

This is a terrific toy - very well built. My 3 year old daughter is hard on everything and proceeded to try to take this toy apart but to no avail! The only breakable part are the rear view mirrors. So far they have held together but I suspect that they will break since they are a little flimsy.

After spending $30 on this 5 pack of construction vehicles, I expected them to hold up a little better than they did. There is a VERY minimal amount of "metal" in these, they are mostly plastic. One of them broke the first day when my 3 year old was playing with them, not even doing anything rough or out of the ordinary. I never would have paid $30 if I had known they would break so easy and had such a tiny amount of metal to them.

CATERPILLAR small Excavator Review

CATERPILLAR small Excavator

My preschooler loves this excavator. In the morning he will play with it for hours in his playroom, and still drag it out with him to the sandbox or garden for the afternoon. He never tires of it. Being a typically sturdy Bruder toy, it will probably never tire of him, either.
That said, it is a nasty piece of work on his tiny, tender hands! Each time he's played with it since we gave it to him for his birthday last week, it has pinched him somewhere. His palms and fingers have little purple bruises from the pinches. I haven't yet identified why this particular model does this. He has two other, larger Bruder diggers/trucks which have never "bitten" him.
If this were a lesser-loved toy, I'd just take it away from him. But fat chance -- he LOVES this toy. Instead I'll just have to keep telling him to play more gently with it.

Tonka Toughs Bulldozer Review

I thought this would be a great toy for our 3 year old grandson. As I
watched him trying to play with it, I was wishing I had gotten something else. If you want a push type toy, this isn't one for that. He's still into running and pushing bigger vehicles. This one isn't tall enough.
Then he tried moving the blade up and down and that proved to be rather
hard and doesn't move much when it does move. Later we took it to the
park so he could play in the sand with it. The rubber tracks kept
coming off. He finally got so frustrated with that, he went to play with
something else. I kept thinking about how much I had paid for this toy
that had turned into such a disappointing experience for him and myself.
If I had know about these things before I purchased it, I would have gone with something else.
